AQUA-TNET contribution to EU Maritime Green Paper published
In June 2006 the European Commission adopted a Green Paper on a Future EU Maritime Policy. On this Green Paper, the Commission proposed the setting up of a European maritime policy framework in order to maintain a sustainable and competitive maritime industry, encompassing all the maritime and marine sectors. The main idea was to put under a single maritime policy a wide range of maritime and marine fields and activities such as resource use, fishing, transport or tourism.
Upon the publication of this Green Paper, the Commission opened a debate amongst all the stakeholders and people interested in general. AQUA-TNET decided to formally make a submission summarising the view of members of the AQUA-TNET Network, who were first consulted via e-mail, prior to a plenary discussion which took place during the first Annual Meeting of the network in June 2007, attended by 75 participants who stimulated a worthwhile discussion around many of the Green Paper issues related to AQUA-TNET.
