Aquaculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Thematic Network in Education & Training

Objectives

1. European Higher Education Area (EHEA)

To contribute to the realisation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), particularly in the development of the TUNING methodology (subject-based and generic competences) in a multi-disciplinary field. Such activities will achieve greater transparency across the sector, and could allow the ECTS to be used as an accumulation system as well as a transfer system. (Workpackages 1, 2, and 3)

2. The New role of Lifelong learning

To contribute to the Berlin Communiqué recommendations to include Life Long Learning in the new Qualifications Frameworks, and that access to HE should take account of prior and life-long learning, Aqua-TNET partners with previous VET experience will aid new partners to both understand and meet their obligations in these areas. (Workpackages 3 and 6)

3. e-Learning

To provide access to the latest developments in e-learning, its use in joint degree structure and virtual mobility, and its use as a flexible pathway giving life-long learners access to learning opportunities. (Council Resolution 2001/C 204/02). (Workpackage 5)

4. European Collaboration

To help integrate new member states and other 3rd countries eligible to participate in SOCRATES, by disseminating information concerning the changes in European education in the last decade and the current tools available to them through EC funded initiatives. (Workpackage 1, 2 and 3)

5. Language Learning and Linguistic Diversity

To implement the EU recommendations for language learning in higher education (self-tuition CLIL modules for the sector in less widely-spoken languages), in the light of The Action Plan for Language Learning and Linguistic Diversity. (Workpackage 6).

6. Mobility

To foster a substantial increase in student and staff mobility, both through EC initiatives (Erasmus, Leonardo) and attempting to set up public and private initiatives. (Workpackage 4)

7. Map European Aquaculture by competencies

To map and update the state of the art in their field using a competency based approach, both academic and vocational competencies in the sector. (Workpackage 3)

8. Draw together Education and Research

To promote synergies between teaching and research (EHEA and ERA) by encouraging research institutes to take part in training initiatives and integrate latest research results into teaching. (Workpackages 2 and 8)

9. Pool resources from EC Funded Education Initiatives

To highlight synergies between activities and projects supported by the Socrates CD project (European Masters (MaqFish), LDV (WAVE, ORION),  6th FP (CRAB, AquaE-Treat, Red-Porgy, Seafoodplus, MARBEF) and Interreg initiatives (E-Aqua, Aquareg, Planeta Azul).

10. Multidisciplinary, Multistakeholder Forum

To provide a forum for all stakeholders to have input into the development of the workforce in order to develop a sustainable aquaculture sector (Workpackages 7 and 9) (Industry (FEAP-31 national associations, research institutions, consumer associations, ESIB)
