Work Package 6 - Positioning Lifelong Learning
Coordination and monitoring: by David Murphy (AquaTT) and Sonia Seixas (Universidade Aberta)
Aim: To identify effective mechanisms, such as the European Qualification Framework (EQF), for partner universities to contribute to the updating of skills & qualifications of the workforce.
While formal education is an essential part of lifelong learning, the acquisition of knowledge, skills and wider competences at the workplace, is also important. Yet the London Communique (para 2.11) stated that a more systematic development of flexible learning paths to support lifelong learning is needed. The EQF is intended to develop such pathways between HE and VET by providing a meta-framework for lifelong learning, covering a wide range of levels and categories of qualifications relevant to lifelong learning (including higher education, vocational education and training and adult education). AQUA-TNET partners with previous experience in these fields will aid new partners both to understand and to meet their obligations in this relatively new area.
Main Objectives:
1. Carry out a survey to identify whether/how research institutes and industrial partners wish to participate in structured and validated lifelong learning systems
2. Carry out a survey to quantify the range and level of lifelong learning carried out by educational institutions.
3. Based on results of surveys identify challenges and opportunities for the delivery of appropriate lifelong learning programmes for different sectors
4. With the assistance of the findings of the VALLA project, demonstrate how to integrate the achievements of informal learning into the emerging EU structures at European and national level (EQF & NQF).
